(15.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Federal-style shelf clock made primarily of cherry wood with boxwood, holly, and satinwood inlay, and white pine as secondary wood.  The flat top is surmounted by a base supporting a central urn-and-spire finial mounted to a plinth decorated by checkered inlay. Flanking the central finial is a pierced and curved fretwork galley. Two matching finials (without plinths) are posted at the front corners. The top board overextends the body of the upper case. Around its perimeter is striped inlay.  A bell-shaped window reveals the clockface, with Roman numerals, a winding hole, and a minute and an hour hand to designate time. Below the dial is the maker's name: [Zacheus Gates]. To the left of the door is a knob.  Along the base of the upper case is cavetto molding. The base features a design of inlaid concentric circles and an inlaid sunburst in alternating shades of wood. The base has stepped molding.
