The back has a curved profile. Four pieces of wood create a classical, urn-shaped frame around a cane backrest, attached with screws through the underside of the seat. Three pieces of wood, a serpentine front rail and two curved rails seamed together at the rear apex, frame the compass seat. The cane is replaced. Varnish is splattered on the underside of the frame, but not the underside of the cane seat. Both the seat and the chair back are trimmed with rattan. The arms are joined to the rear stiles with round through tenons. Thin pieces of wood are applied over seams where the arms meet the front surface of the chair back; the grain runs perpendicular to the wood of the arm. Bracket armrests are screwed into the seat from the underside of the frame. The edge of the arm is chamfered above the armrest. Incised lines depicting stylized fronds decorate the top surface of the arms.  The chair has a hinged table. The table sits on a rabbet groove cut into the top surface of the armrests. The table frame is cut from two pieces of wood. The table surface slips into a groove cut into the exterior curve, then a serpentine-cut board, attached to the exterior curve with screws, completes the circuit. A looped metal tension rod, emerging through a hole cut into the table rail, catches on a screw in the top surface of the right armrest. When squeezed, the latch releases and the table flips over the chair back to rest against its back surface. A single screw on each side attaches the table to the arms.  The seat is attached to fixed, parallel harp-shaped frames, which together house a mechanism for converting the curving, open work legs into bends. A knob at the back of the chair adjusts a spring-encased tension rod, which releases the catch that locks twin cogs above each leg, allowing them to collapse outward into the curve of the bend. All four legs have large, iron wheels. In the upright position, the front wheels rest on the ground; the rear wheels are positioned half an inch above the ground. A turned stretcher and a foot rest are positioned between the fixed frames supporting the front legs. There are two ring-turned stretchers between the front legs, and two ring-turned stretchers between the rear legs.  The chair is coated with multiple layers of peeling varnish. The wood is decorated with incised lines, beads, and half-round molding on most surfaces. Except for the brass caps on the ends of ends of the swing table, and the brass collar on the rear spring rod, all of the metal is iron. A yellow-gold surface coating is flaking off of the hardware.
