The hood has a molded arch pediment with a pagoda top, three elongated ball-and-spire finials on plinths (two at the front corners and one central), and two free-standing turned columns with brass capitals at the front corners. On the left side is a knob and shaped escutcheon. A glazed door with an astragal top opens to reveal a composite brass dial with applied chapter ring with Roman numerals indicating hours and Arabic numerals indicating minutes, applied cast ornament in the spandrels and lunette, and an applied silent/strike mechanism in the lunette. Inside the chapter ring there is an applied seconds dial, a calendar aperture, and a name plate engraved: [Gawen Brown / BOSTON].  Cyma-curved and beveled molding outlines the top of the trunk. The hinged trunk door is astragal at the top and has a shaped escutcheon on the left. Flanking the door are fluted columns with brass capitals.  Cavetto and ogee molding outlines the top of the base.
