The chair has a square, flat back that is angled slightly backward. The arched, pierced crest rail is carved with a symmetrical design of scrolls and stylized leaves. The crest rail is tenoned into blocks on the rear stiles. A horizontal rail, with a shaped lower edge and scroll carving, is tenoned into blocks on the rear stiles above the seat. A caned splat is set between the crest rail and the horizontal rail. The front surface of the splat is pierced and carved with scrolls and leaves on either side of a central cane panel.  Turned finials surmount the rear stiles. The baluster-turned stiles are jointed to the seat rail and continuous with the back legs. The trapezoidal, caned seat is framed with mortise and tenon joints. The top of the seat is covered with a panel of modern, composite wood; damaged cane is visible from the underside of the seat. The two front legs are turned just beneath the seat and shaped in a modified cabriole that terminates in a scroll foot. The chair has two rear stump legs. The chair has two baluster-turned side stretchers and two stretchers turned with ball and ring centers and tapering ends; the ball and ring stretchers are mounted between the side stretchers and the rear legs. An elaborate pierced, carved stretcher between the two front legs echoes the design of the carved crest rail.  The chair is grain-painted in brown and red.
