(77.5 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Chippendale-style tilt-top table constructed of mahogany with cherry cleats, a wrought iron spider, and a brass latch. Large, square tilt-top with serpentine curved sides. Sides have an integral ogee molding on all sides. Made of one large board and one thin section of a second board that is attached with butterfly joints. Two cherry cleats screwed to the back of the table top fit on each side of the block when the top is lowered. The table top rotates on round tenons that extend from the block and fit into the sides of the cleats. The central, baluster-turned pillar is attached with a mortise and tenon joint to a large, thick square block that has a beveled underside. The tenon is wedged on all four sides. Three cabriole legs are attached to the central pillar with sliding dovetails. The legs are secured with a wrought iron spider on the underside of the pillar and legs. There are scalloped cutouts on the bottoms of the legs and pillar. The cabriole legs terminate with snake feet that each have a central, upper ridge. There is an incised line around the lower section of each foot. The table top has been refinished.
