The upper case has a broken scroll pediment with complex molding along the upper edges of the scrolls. Gilded urn and corkscrew finials are mounted on top of rectangular plinths at the front corners and on a shaped plinth that extends from the center front of the pediment. The front vertical edges of the bookcase have fluted pilasters. The case has paneled doors with brass keyhole surrounds. The upper frame elements of the doors are shaped as gothic arches. The top sections of the door panels are arched and extend just above the top frame elements. The case interior has a row of four pigeonholes at the top and stack of three pigeonholes, surmounting a narrow drawer, at the left and right sides of the case. Shelves are mounted between the columns of pigeonholes. Between the pediment and the row of pigeonholes, in the areas covered by the arches of the doors, are carved fans.  The lower case has a fall lid that opens up into a flat surface on which to write. The desk interior has a central prospect unit consisting of a prospect door with inset, blocked shell carving flanked by document drawers with applied half-turnings with urn finials. To the left and right of the prospect unit are three pigeonholes over drawers. The pigeonholes have valances with semi-circular, concave blocking; the valances may be drawer fronts. The concavities in the valances at the left and right corners of the desk have fan carving. Below the desk surface, the case is blockfront with curved upper corners. The case has four graduated drawers. The lid and drawers each have a shaped escutcheon; the drawers each have two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. A pendant drop extends from the center front of the case skirt. The case sits on bracket feet.  The upper and lower cases each have large bail pulls with back plates mounted on the case sides.
