When fully open, the table top is nearly square with rounded corners. Each leaf of the table is rectangular with two straight corners and two rounded, and is constructed from one board. When closed, the rounded edge of the table top overhangs slightly at the front and sides. When open, the table has a large overhang at the front and back and a slight overhang at the sides. The leaves of the table are joined to each other with knife surface hinges, which appear to be original. The lower leaf of the table, the right leaf when open, attaches to the lower structure with a rotating hinge. This hinge is a rounded block, which is screwed to the underside of the table leaf with two screws, and sits in a round mortise through a supporting board of the frame. A block also applied to the underside of the lower leaf acts as a stop, halting the rotation; this block may be a replacement.    The table frame is rectangular, with rounded front corners. The front and sides of the table frame are constructed as an upper and lower strip, mortise and tenoned to the corner blocks, with a convex panel across the center. The panels have figured walnut veneers; the front panel veneer is bookmatched. The back of the frame is one board. To the right of center on the underside of the table, a support rail for the tabletop hinge has been mortise and tenoned to the front and back of the table frame. The left side of the table has a compartment. The front, back, and left side of the compartment are formed by the table frame. The right side of the compartment has been attached to the table frame by mortise and tenon. The bottom of the compartment sits in a groove in the front and back, and has been nailed to the right side. The interior of the compartment has a reddish stain or wash applied.    The legs of the table are continuous with the corner blocks of the frame, and are spiral turned with ring and bulb turnings at the top and bottom. The end of the leg tapers to serve as a foot; metal furniture slides are attached to the bottom of each leg. The secondary wood is nonporous and has visible resin canals suggesting pine; the grain is most consistent with white pine. Hinges, screws, and nails are visible on the piece.
