A board hinged to the unfolding top opens to give access to the keyboard of 43 keys and the keywell, which is framed in string inlay. The piano is an English double action with leather hammers, double-strings throughout, and an iron string plate frame. The keywell has a nameplate engraved: [J. CHICKERING / Boston]. To the right of the keywell is a frame of string inlay recessed from the corner. The piano has four legs that are gadrooned with reel-and-spool turning and reeding, and taper to terminate on castors. The feet are cylindrical and have reel turning. Volute-carved blocks surmount the two front legs.
