(53.7 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Slat-backed, Empire-style klismos chair. The back of the chair is square with a curved profile. A curved rectangular tablet serves as the crest rail. The chair has two horizontal slats set into the stiles: a decorative slat at mid-back and a thin, reeded slat above the seat. The decorative slat has a wide octagonal center flanked by two elongated urn shapes. The tablet and the decorative slat are outlined with incised lines. The tablet and the decorative slat's octagonal center are veneered. The tablet fits into a rabbet in the rear stiles, which are continuous with the back legs.  The slip seat is trapezoidal. The front surface of the front rail is reeded. The tops of the side rails are curved to follow the sloped profile of the rear stiles. Corner blocks are glued to the frame and each screwed into place with two flat-head screws. There are visible, regular saw marks along the interior curves of the corner blocks. Screws in pockets on the underside of the frame, two on both the front and back rails, join the seat to the frame. It is unknown if any of the upholstery materials are original; the leather top cover and dust cloth have been replaced.  All four legs are sabre shaped. The front legs are reeded, in continuous curves that move from the rear stiles, over the side rails, and down into the feet.
