The case top is composed of two boards accommodating a slanted, hinged writing surface covered in original wool baize and two cupboards attached to a gallery. The hinges for the writing surface are broken, and it is detached from the desk. The lid is composed of a single piece of wood, and the interior is open. The top boards of the desk have overhanging edges at the front and sides terminating in an integral half-round molding. The top is attached to the two lower cases with pegs, mortise and tenon joints, and glue blocks. The gallery runs straight across the back of the desktop curving upward to form the back of the small upper cases. Between the two cases, a strip of wood is nailed proud of the gallery with small inserts.  The small upper cases are constructed with single boards that appear to be mortise and tenoned or glued together. They are screwed into the desk surface. The top boards have overhanging edges at the front and sides terminating in integral half-round moldings. Each case accommodates an inward facing door with a drawer below it. The doors are panel framed with recessed segments faced with vertical veneers. The doors have locks and keyhole surrounds. The left case holds nine square pigeonholes, and the right case holds three vertical pigeonholes, their dividers with ogee curved profiles.  The drawers within these upper cases are faced with solid wood. The drawer sides are full height and constructed with dovetails at the front and back. The drawer bottoms are composed of single boards with grain running from side to side. They are let into grooves at the front and sides. The drawers rest on runners that are set into grooves at the sides. The bottom front rails are attached with screws and faced with veneer.  Below the desktop are two smaller case pieces. The sides, both interior and exterior, are panel framed, and the front edges are curved. The back of the left lower case is made of panel framed mahogany while the back of the right case is made of machine sawn walnut. Both are attached with nails and a large number of glue blocks. Another panel framed section was once affixed between the two cases, but has since detached. At the front, a straight skirt with applied, curved corners extends between the two cases. The bottom edges of each lower case are surrounded with strips that were likely once veneered but have been significantly worn. They are now painted black.  Each lower case holds three graduated drawers faced with horizontal veneer. The drawers have wooden knobs and keyhole surrounds with locks. The drawer sides are full height and constructed with dovetails at the front and back. The drawer bottoms are composed of single boards with grain running from side to side with chamfering at the fronts and sides. They are let into grooves at the front and sides and nailed to the underside of the drawer backs. The drawers rest on runners attached to the case sides with nails. The rails and dividers are attached with mortise and tenon joints and faced with veneers. The bottom right drawer has interior dividers splitting it into six square sections attached with mortise and tenon joints. The center right drawer has two vertical dividers nailed in place. The top right drawer has a nailed divider splitting off a section at the front, further divided into two square sections and one rectangular section.
