(29.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Chippendale-style, blockfront desk-and-bookcase made of mahogany, red cedar, white pine, and cherry.  Surmounting the upper case is a broken-top pediment and a central urn finial. The cornice and architrave are molded. The top section has a row of pigeonholes above three shelves and a layer of drawers behind paneled and molded doors. In the desk are pigeonholes flanking drawers with half-round turned decorations, all over shelves. When closed, at top, the lid has a shaped escutcheon and a keyhole. The lower case house four graduated drawers curved to the form of the oxbow. The base is molded with a central, shell-carved drop on the apron. The legs are cabriole with ball-and-claw feet, with shaped brackets in the spandrel. Constructed with a single front dovetail. The brass on the cabinet portion of the desk is a replacement, as is the fan carved drawer. The finial was originally gilded. It was later gessoed and painted over.
