The upper case has a broken scroll pediment with ogee molding along the upper edges of the scrolls. Urn and corkscrew finials are mounted on top of rectangular plinths at the front corners and on a shaped plinth that extends from the center front of the pediment. The front vertical edges of the bookcase have fluted pilasters. The case has paneled doors with pierced brass keyhole surrounds. The case interior is not visible in photographs. Two sliding candlestands extend from beneath the center of each door.  The lower case has a fall lid that opens up into a flat surface on which to write. The desk interior has a central prospect unit with a prospect door with inset, blocked shell carving flanked by two document drawers with applied half-turnings with urn and corkscrew finials. The left and right sides of the desk interior are each fitted with a stack of three narrow drawers carved with the same shell and blocking as the prospect door. Between these drawers and the prospect unit are three pigeonholes with serpentine valances over wide, blocked drawers. Below the desk surface, the case is blockfront. The case has four graduated drawers. The uppermost drawer is flanked by lopers, each of which has a single knob. The drawers each have a shaped escutcheon and two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. A shell drop extends from the center front of the case skirt.
