The chair back has a shield shape with a central arch and pointed shoulders, and molding along the front surfaces. Three flat slats extend from the lower point of the shield to meet the crest rail. The center slat is straight; the others are curved to mimic the shape of the shield. Each of the slats has an urn-shaped profile at the top, surmounting a marquetry oval with alternating light and dark wood that forms a sunburst pattern, and a spade shape. The central slat has the addition of a circular shape between the urn and the oval. The base of the shield, where the slats meet, has a marquetry fan of alternating light and dark woods.  The seat has a serpentine front edge. The seat is upholstered over the frame. Two rows of upholstery tacks are applied along the edges of the seat frame. The front therm legs have molding along the front surfaces. The two rear legs cant back.
