The lower section of the bird-cage back has seven spindles between the rear stiles. The bamboo-turned spindles are tenoned through the top. The rear stiles are tenoned through the seat. The upper section of the back has three spindles, which are also tenoned through the top. The shaped compass seat has a shallow cove outlining the spindles. A double cove molding outlines the front and side edges of the seat. The legs and stretchers are bamboo-turned. There is one stretcher on each side as well the front and rear. The chair is painted red; previous layers of gray and white paint are visible.
