The case has four full-width drawers; the top and bottom drawer are taller than the middle two drawers. Each drawer front has applied moldings that form two decorative panels. The panels on the top and bottom drawers are raised rectangles outlined in beveled molding; the panels on the two middle drawers are rectangles with inverted short sides. Each drawer front has two drop pulls. The top three drawers each have a central pierced escutcheon. The front of the case has short rectangular feet with compressed ball feet below. Typed label in top drawer: [Belonged to Jane Lambert wife of Francis Lambert. They lived in Rowley, Mass. In her will (probate records of Essex Co. Mass. 1659) she left this chest and contents to her daughter Ann Lambert who in that year married Thomas Nelson. It has been in use in the family ever since and descended to Elizabeth Mighill Nelson Bateman, sister of Humphrey Nelson [whose daughter] who willed it to me, wife of Arther Lambert Chute. I have given it to my daughter Mary Chute McMurtrie who is a direct descendant from Jane Lambert in the 10th generation in both Nelson and Lambert lines.
