(55.6 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Chippendale-style mahogany slant-front desk with a fall lid that opens up into a flat surface on which to write. The desk interior is stepped with a lower, deeper tier of a wide drawer flanked by two narrower drawers and an upper, narrower tier of prospect unit, pigeonholes, and drawers. The prospect unit consists of two stacked, blocked drawers with inset shell carving flanked by two document drawers with applied half turnings in the form of a column with flame. On either side of the prospect unit are four pigeonholes with serpentine valances above two drawers. The wide drawer on the lower tier is fitted with two small brass knobs; the other drawers each have a single knob. Below the desk surface, the case has an oxbow facade. The case has four graduated drawers. The uppermost drawer is flanked by lopers, each of which has a single knob. The front of the top drawer is shaped with a concave arch in the center and convex arches to either side, which flow into the oxbow shape below. The drawers each have a shaped escutcheon and two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. The complex molding along the side and front lower edges of the case follows the profile of the case front. A center drop with an arched cut-out at the center extends below the case. The case rests on ogee bracket feet.
