The exterior surfaces are extensively veneered.    The top of the upper case is composed of one board that is dovetailed to the sides of the case and supported with glue blocks. Bead and cove molding runs along the side and front edges of the case top. A small arched pediment, formed from two closed scrolls, is centered on the top. A solid, rectangular gallery flanks the pediment on the sides and front of the case top. The case sides are each constructed of one board with squared edges, dovetailed, and veneered. The case back has frame and panel construction and is attached with nails. There is a batten in the center of the case back. The case bottom is constructed of one board and attached with dovetails. The case front has two doors that open outward. Each door is attached with two cotter-pin hinges. The doors are panel-framed with inset glass panels. Below the glass on each door is a narrow, horizontal panel dovetailed into the sides of the door frames. The door fronts are covered in mahogany veneer with a horizontal grain and have areas with an applied, bead molding. The glass panels are outlined in a bead molding and are shaped into Gothic arches. Inside the doors, there are three shelves of which two are adjustable. The shelves have applied mahogany strips on the front. Below the shelves are four drawers that flank four pigeon holes. The pigeon holes also have applied mahogany strips in the front. The drawer sides are full height and the drawer bottoms are constructed of one board.    The lower case top is constructed of two boards dovetailed into the case sides. In the center of the top, connecting the two boards, there is a cleat or support board with a chamfered top to fit at the point of the desk board that is at an angle. The case sides are constructed of one board each. The case back is attached with nails and constructed of two, horizontal boards that are connected with a butt joint. The case bottom is constructed of four boards and attached with dovetails and glue blocks. A half-round, base molding is glued and nailed to the front and sides of the case. The case front includes a fall-front door and three drawers of equal height. The top drawer is flanked by two lopers. The fall-front door is attached with butt hinges and rests on lopers when open. The door front is solid and covered in a horizontal mahognay veneer. The writing surface is covered in green baize and outlined with veneer. The drawer fronts are covered in a figured, horizontal veneer and have an applied, bead molding on the edges. The drawer sides are full height and have applied running strips. The drawer bottoms are constructed of one, horizontal board. The drawer bottoms are let into a groove in the front and sides, and then nailed to the underside of the back. The drawer sides are dovetailed in the front and back. The drawers rest on the original runners that are nailed into grooves on the sides. The four identical legs are baluster-turned with ring turnings. The legs are attached with glue blocks and terminate with bun feet.    The left case side of the lower case is split in the middle. The right side of the lower case is split in two places.
