The top crest rail and the front seat rail are serpentine. The cylindrical arm rests are mounted at a slight downward angle between the ears of the crest rail and the tops of the cyma-shaped arm supports. The frame of the back of the sofa consists of seven separate components: the upper crest rail, two side stiles, three vertical rails to support the seat back, and the lower rail. A linen textile is attached to the back with nail or tacks. The seat frame consists of five separate components: The back rail, the front rail, two side rails, and the middle support brace. At the four corners, the rails abut the legs. The Marlborough legs are grooved and terminate in block feet. The back legs cant backward slightly. Bracing the legs are box-stretchers: two back, two front, and three side. The front stretchers are slightly recessed. When the sofa was photographed in 1965, it was not upholstered. Visible over the seat frame, the top of the legs, arm posts, and places which would be covered by upholstery are holes to indicate numerous iterations of the sofa as upholstered. The top crest at front and center is inscribed: [J & Wm Bright]."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/9/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Inscribed with chalk on crest, center: [J & Wm Bright]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Unidentified wood; Unidentified textile; Upholstery materials; Linen textile"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on Boston Directory listings.
