The rear stiles are joined to the seat rail and continuous with the back legs. The fronts of the stiles have inscribed vertical lines. Three horizontal slats are mounted between the rear stiles. Each slat has a serpentine top edge, a heart-shaped carving at the center, and two teardrop carvings flanking the heart. The trapezoidal rush seat is attached to the legs with mortise and tenon joints. The chair has four Marlborough legs; the front legs have beaded molding along the front-facing outer edge. The chair has front, side, and rear stretchers.
