When closed, the top resembles a lectern with a piece of applied decorative molding to serve the purpose of keeping items in place. A brass plate is affixed at center and a escutcheon and keyhole is towards the back. The center section features double-paneled doors, which open outward. The doors are situated between lopers with ring pulls, which support the desk surface when unfolded. The sides of the case have two drawers with ring pulls. The lower section has five drawers. The top row has a wide drawer, which has two bail pulls and batwing escutcheons and a keyhole surround, between two smaller drawers, which each have a single ring pull. The lower two drawers are graduated. They each have bail pulls flanking a batwing shaped escutcheon with a keyhole. The bottom of the case is molded with a central drop. The case sits on ogee bracket legs and terminates in ball-and-claw feet. As of 1970, all the brasses are original."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; White pine; Brass"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date based on characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1765 - D:00 M:00 Y:1790"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Skillin was active in Boston as a carver and cabinetmaker about 1775."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Attributed to John Skillin and Simeon Skillin, Jr., by Mabel Swan, 1948.
