The fixed portion of the solid mahogany table top is composed of one rectangular board with rounded front corners and half-round molded edges. The straight, unmolded rear edge of the fixed board butts against a second, narrow movable board that extends away from the fixed board to accommodate leaves when the table is open. The original leaves are now missing but would have been locked in place with dowels inserted into round holes carved in the abutting edges of the two boards. The back edge of the movable board is hinged to a leaf that mirrors the shape of the fixed board but is as wide as the fixed and movable boards when placed next to each other. When the table is closed, the hinged leaf lays on top of the fixed and movable boards. When the table is open, the hinged leaf rotates 180 degrees to rest on two gate legs. The gate legs are mortise and tenoned to gate rails that are attached with rounded knuckle hinges to a central fixed board screwed to the underside of the movable table top. The fixed table top is attached with screws in screw pockets to a conforming skirt veneered with figured mahogany.    The mechanism that allows the table to extend in length is an accordion framework composed of three X-form sections, each with four boards connected in the center with X-form hinges above and below a round wooden center piece. The accordion framework terminates in a cross-table fixed support beam screwed to the underside of the table top below the movable board. The rear arms of the third section of the accordion framework both have a half-gourd-shaped board screwed to the underside. Interlocking quarter-circles of round wooden teeth attached to the medial ends of the gourds form a gear that allows the accordion framework to extend away from the fixed support beam. The table is supported by ten baluster-turned solid mahogany legs with brass castors on the feet. The two front legs are mortise and tenoned to the table frame and do not move. The two rear gate legs are aligned with the outer edges of the frame when the table is closed and open in toward the center to support the hinged leaf when open. The remaining six interior legs are attached to alternating arms of the accordion framework, three on each side of the table. The tops of the interior legs are wedge-shaped and fit in notches cut in the underside of the accordion frame.
