Maple may have been utilized as a secondary wood. The rectangular chair back and tablet are curved. The tablet has curved indentations cut into the center of each short side to follow the shape of moldings that outline its top and bottom edges and scroll inward at the ends. Three clustered leaves are relief carved, extending from the center of each short side, where the scrolls meet, toward the center of the tablet. The center of the tablet has a raised rectangle with concave side edges veneered with figured mahogany. The tablet is set into the fronts of the rear stiles and stands slightly proud of the stiles. All carving on the tablet is relief carving. The stiles are continuous with the back legs, and curved at the back. Between the stiles is a horizontal slat composed of two separate ogee curved, turned strips joined to the seat rail at each scrolled end. Two symmetrical leaves project from each slat component at the center where the gap between them is widest. The leaves are split into three convex segments. Together they encircle a medallion with two concentric rings and a stylized flower carved at the center. The back of the slat is flat-sawn with a circular projection behind the central flower. The trapezoidal seat is framed, each seat rail attached to the legs with double mortise and tenon joints and secured with glue. There are four corner blocks attached to the frame with two screws each, all of which appear to be original. The front seat rail is made of a secondary wood faced with carved mahogany. The front edge is carved with five reeds. The slip seat has been reupholstered and is screwed into the front and rear seat rails. A single half-round molding flanked with beading extends down the rear stiles, onto the tops of the side seat rails, and over the fronts of the front legs. The chair has four sabre legs attached to the seat rails with double mortise and tenon joints. The rear right leg has been repaired and secured with a pin. Modern metal sliders are attached to the undersides of the feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/26/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"None found."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Maple"},{"label":"Style","value":["Empire"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based upon characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1815 - D:00 M:00 Y:1840"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Identified by Brock Jobe as possibly being made in or around Boston due to characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Grecian chair; Klysmos chair"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Chair"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Seating furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Klismos chair"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/26/2018"}],"description":"Klismos chair","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_2015-5117-001","height":1200,"width":890,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/767dd481-9c1c-4370-aecd-383532a06844/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/767dd481-9c1c-4370-aecd-383532a06844","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1200,"width":890},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/767dd481-9c1c-4370-aecd-383532a06844/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_2015-5117-002","height":1200,"width":759,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/df76ca82-052d-4e47-8b09-14fe4c87b0a6/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/df76ca82-052d-4e47-8b09-14fe4c87b0a6","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":1200,"width":759},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/df76ca82-052d-4e47-8b09-14fe4c87b0a6/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_3","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_2015-5117-003","height":896,"width":1200,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/203cedf3-df26-4c11-b7fd-bec799fc8cbd/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/203cedf3-df26-4c11-b7fd-bec799fc8cbd","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":896,"width":1200},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/0d25b2ca-6d0c-48d1-b99e-66c11f24868d/canvas/_3","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/203cedf3-df26-4c11-b7fd-bec799fc8cbd/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/767dd481-9c1c-4370-aecd-383532a06844/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
