A board secured to the unfolding top opens to give access to the keyboard of 73 keys and the keywell, which has a central name plate inscribed: [MADE BY / A. Babcock / for R. Mackay, / BOSTON.]. The top opens fully to reveal the double-strings and basswood core leather hammers. Locking mechanisms are visible on the lid and the central front of the keywell. The entire case is veneered with mahogany and rosewood. The front corners, the keywell, the front rail, and apron feature veneered tablets framed in string inlay. The medial section of the apron is concave. Beneath the keys are two side-hung drawers with ring pulls. The central drawers have two pulls and the flanking drawers have one pull each.
