(91.4 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany table with twist-turned legs and dated inscription scrawled in graphite on bottom of storage compartment. Two hinged, solid mahogany boards stack and rest on table frame when closed. Boards rotate clockwise ninety degrees to allow access to storage compartment. When boards are rotated perpendicular to frame, top board folds open to cover compartment and to extend table surface. The two H-hinges securing the boards appear to be original. Neither board is fixed to frame beyond mechanism that allows boards to rotate. A large glue block or stopper prevents boards from rotating too far. Table top has half-round molded edges (integral). Frame is mortise and tenoned to rear legs and half-blind dovetailed to the front legs. Dovetails are reinforced with screws. Saw marks (likely band saw) are visible from underside of table top, along with chafing marks from the rotation of table top.    From right to left, a storage compartment extends the full width of frame and approximately three-quarters its length. Compartment terminates with board perpendicular to frame toward left side. Boards of table top are secured to and pivot on this framing member. Compartment bottom is nailed to framing member and held in place with glue blocks, some of which are chamfered at corners.    Case sides and front are each made from a single board veneered on outer edges and have clock beading applied with glue along sides and front. There is a decorative rectangular facing slightly thicker than veneer at center front of table frame. The back of table frame is made from a single unfinished board.    Front and back legs follow identical pattern of twist turning with a series of ring turnings at top and bottom. Top of front legs are ornamented with reeded carving, which is integral and continuous with legs. Top of back legs are unornamented. Legs are slightly tapered, ending at floor with two ring turnings and an extended tapered column.    At some point, the right front leg sustained significant damage (possibly detached?) and was repaired. Additional cosmetic damage is visible to carving on legs.
