The bedposts are unusually high and decorated with crisply carved floral ornaments and acanthus leaves. Bed irons pass through the posts and are secured to the bed rails with square nuts. The turned, reeded and carved posts are attached to the headboard with a mortise and tenon joint. The side and foot rails are chamfered along the outside of the top edge. The holes for the bed irons are covered with mahogany rosettes. The headboard has scroll sawn ears attached at two points to the head posts, with a semi-circular cut out between the points of connection. The height of the headboard above the rails indicates two mattresses. The mattresses were originally set within the bed frame and supported on ropes that passed through holes evenly distributed along the bed rails. The mattresses currently rest on a solid platform covered with ticking. The upholstered tester covers a single, side-to-side cross brace.
