The case appears to be a night table with a false top drawer and two lower doors, an illusion created by decorative veneer. Instead, the false drawer front is hinged along the front edge of the table top and the top is hinged to the back of the case. The joined false drawer front and top open to reveal a pierced shelf or seat that supports a chamber pot. The top of the case is a single board. The false drawer front folds down when the commode is open. The case sides are each composed of single boards with squared edges. The case front is decorated with illusory banding and stringing. The false drawer has book matched figured mahogany veneers surrounded by lightwood stringing and darker figured banding with cock bead molding at the edges and two brass bail pulls. The lower portion of the case has two panels with book matched veneers surrounded by similar stringing and banding. Additional vertical stringing extends between the two panels, and a different horizontal stringing is below them, trailing around the sides of the case. The case back is composed of four horizontal boards attached to each other with butt joints and affixed with nails. There is a worn label on the upper center of the case back. The case bottom is composed of a single board attached with glue blocks and possible dovetails suggested by a series of scribe lines. A curved skirt extends beneath the case at the front and sides. The case has four French feet attached with glue blocks of which only some remain. The front left foot appears to have been replaced.  Inside the case, a fixed shelf is attached with glue blocks. It is composed of a single pierced board with a circular hole and rounded protrusion to accommodate a chamber pot. An additional removable shelf or seat rests atop the fixed shelf with an identical hole. It is composed of three boards.
