Rectangular back with curved profile and squared shoulders. The crest rail consists of three closely-spaced curved spindles. The center of the back has a similar curved set of three spindles. The spindles each have a black, stenciled line running the entire length of the spindle. The arms are each a single piece of bentwood that curves outward from the rear stiles and then back inward to rest at the top of the seat. The arms are attached with domed-shaped flat head screws. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs and joined to the seat rail. The framed compass seat has its original, painted, rush seat covering. The exposed wood at the front corners of the seat is painted yellow with black stenciling and gilding. The baluster-turned, tapering, front legs have gilding highlighting the rings. The front legs terminate in a small ball foot. The back legs are cylindrical and taper. All the legs are attached to the seat frame with mortise and tenon joints. The chair has one rear stretcher; two stretchers on each side; and three, horizontally-arched front stretchers that echo the spindles on the back of the chair. The legs and stretchers are painted and enhanced with black stenciling. Overall paint treatment of yellow with stenciling and gilding with the exception of the bentwood arms. The arms appear to have been replaced.
