(59.1 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany and mahogany veneer Empire-style chest of drawers with American tulip poplar and white pine as secondary woods. The case top is composed of a single board with overhanging edges at the front and sides terminating with an integral Grecian molding below an inscribed line. The attachment method for the top is unclear. The case sides are framed with recessed central panels and have squared front edges. The left recessed panel has been repaired with glue and covered with fabric at the interior. The case has two full-height veneered and turned half columns with plain shafts and brass mounts decorating the capitals and plinths. The top drawer and top board stand proud of the front of the case to accommodate the columns. The case back is also panel framed with two recessed boards and may be made of American tulipwood. It is attached to the sides with nails. The case bottom is likely made of a single board attached with screws on the front edge and secured with glue blocks. The bottom of the case is surrounded by a straight, veneered skirt with rounded elements below the columns. An interior pine frame fits within the case with vertical boards at each corner and three horizontal rails running beside each dust board on either side. These rails are attached to the vertical boards with single dovetails. The case has four ball feet, all of which have been turned with grooves in the center. Brass beading is nailed into the grooves.  The case has four drawers; the top drawer is separated from the other three, which are graduated. The drawers are faced with horizontal veneer. The lower three drawers have two floral brass pulls each, and all four have keyhole surrounds. The sides are full height and attached with dovetails. The drawer bottoms are single boards with grain running from side to side and chamfering at the front and sides. On the inside of each drawer, rounded strips run from the front to back corners, which may serve as glue blocks. The bottoms are let into grooves at the sides and nailed to the inside of the drawer backs. The drawers rest on runners, and the bottom drawer rests on the case bottom. The runners are set into a groove in the side pine rails and may be reinforced with nails or pegs. The case has three drawer dividers, which are let into a groove and also may be reinforced with nails or pegs. The dividers are faced with thin mahogany strips.
