(73 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany, mahogany veneer, and marble Empire-style center table. The marble tabletop is circular, and it is not attached to the wooden frame. The top edge of the table frame has small nail holes around its circumference, indicating a alternate previous covering. The table frame is also circular and composed of four laminated layers: four bent boards grooved down toward the center of the frame and nailed into four thick corner block boards, below these are two layers of thin boards which are nailed in from below. The exterior face of the table frame is veneered and decorated with rectangles of nailed brass inlay and surrounded by additional rectangles of applied banding. The table has three plain turned and veneered columnar legs with brass mounts at their capitals and plinths. The legs taper outward. They seem to be mortise and tenoned to the table frame. The bottoms of the legs are attached to a triangle plinth with concave edges. The plinth is composed of three veneered boards attached with nails. The exterior faces of the plinth are decorated to match the frame with rectangles of brass stringing and applied banding. The legs connect to notched semi-circular projections at the corners of the plinth. The table has three bun feet that are most likely mortise and tenoned or pegged to the legs.
