The piano is rectangular with rounded corners. The top is composed of two hinged sections. Half of the top board can be opened at the back to expose the hammers and strings in the interior of the piano, and a small rectangular section can be opened at the front to expose the piano keys. These two hinged boards butt up against one another, sharing two hinges. Another hinged board is attached to the front edge of the keyboard cover, folding upward when open to serve as a music stand. This board also has a lock and keyhole surround. Inside of the front opening, a rectangle of brass inlay decorates the plain frieze above the keys. At either side, of the upper board diamond openwork rectangles are backed with gold fabric. The points of intersection between the diamonds are carved with floral shapes. An additional music stand can be extended from the top face of this board above the keys. The top hinged sections are not attached to the piano frame. The top has overhanging edges at the front and sides, which terminate in an integral half-round molding with a nailed brass inlay. The top surface is also edged with a rectangle of brass inlay. There is significant sun bleaching on the top and sides of the piano along with bubbling and cracking of the varnish. Each side is composed of a single board with curved edges. The frame construction is unclear. The front and sides of the piano are decorated with rectangles of nailed brass inlay as well as rectangles over the legs. Below, a cove molding surrounds the front and side case faces, positioned above a plain frieze with brass inlay at the top and bottom. The back of the piano is composed of one horizontal board that may be attached with nails. The bottom of the piano is composed of multiple boards covered with a red wash and attached with screws. A large board with a beveled front edge runs diagonally between the front right and left rear legs of the piano. It is attached with screws and does not serve a clear purpose. The piano has two front legs and three rear legs, all of which are turned. The four outer legs are topped with a bun shape followed by a tapering reeded cylinder flanked with sculpted rings. The center leg has a different turning pattern with a thinner reeded cylinder flanked by spool shapes and decorative rings. It terminates in a square base with a musical pedal, and a plain turned rail projects diagonally from the back to the underside of the piano. The legs are attached with mortise and tenon joints. The blocks above the legs are painted to appear as rosewood. On the underside of the piano, one circular tenon at the back and two square tenons at the front surrounded by shadows are visible, indicating that it may have originally had three additional legs.
