The lid has molding around the edges and a keyhole surround at the top. The interior has two stepped tiers. The bottom tier has three drawers with round metal knobs and cock-bead molding on the dividers. The top tier has a central pigeonhole with an arched valance over a single drawer with a round metal knob; this is flanked by vertical document drawers with turned and fluted half columns with flame finials. To the outside are large open spaces where the original pigeonholes and drawers have been removed. The case has a serpentine front; the concave portions terminate with sharp creases near the top of the top drawer. The four graduated drawers have escutcheons with pine-tree-style tops and bail pulls; the sides of the case have bail handles on escutcheons of a different shape than the front escutcheons. The escutcheons and pulls may be original. Cock-bead molding surrounds the drawer openings; cove-and-quarter-round molding runs along the bottom of the case. The shortened cabriole legs have scrolled knee brackets and claw-and-ball feet. The top of the case is dovetailed into the sides, with the dovetails exposed. The small drawers are dovetailed at front and back (with finer dovetails at the back), and the bottoms are rabbeted at the front and butted at the sides and back; the knobs screw on. The large drawers are dovetailed at front and back, and the bottoms are tongue and grooved at the front and sides and butted at the back; the pulls and escutcheons are screwed on, using nuts. The drawers are supported by runners, pine dust boards 4 inch (10.2 cm) deep, and mahogany drawer dividers, all of which are slid one after another into grooves in the side of the case. The bottom of the case is constructed of two butted pine boards with two nailed blocks providing additional support. The feet have shaped blocks behind the knee brackets. The bracket at the side of the right front foot has been replaced. The bottom drawer has been reconstructed, keeping the original front. The drawer runners and large drawer bottoms have been repaired or replaced. The back has been replaced with an entirely new back of American tulip poplar covered by tin sheeting."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Pine; Unidentified metal; American tulip poplar; Tin"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1755 - D:00 M:00 Y:1790"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Place of origin identified as probably Boston by DAPC staff, 1976.
