The upper case has a broken scroll pediment outlined with wide, carved molding and terminating in carved rosettes. Urn and corkscrew finials are mounted on top of rectangular plinths at the front corners. As of 1976, an urn and corkscrew finial sat on a shaped plinth that rises from the center front of the pediment; by 2017, the finial had been replaced with a gilded, carved eagle. Below the pediment is a cornice with dentil molding. The case has paneled doors with recessed mirrors. The inner edges of the door's frame elements are serpentine, beveled, and carved. The doors have pierced brass keyhole surrounds. The front vertical edges of the bookcase have fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals. A single sliding candlestand with a small brass knob extends from the center, lower edge of the upper case. The lower case has a fall lid that opens up into a flat surface on which to write. The desk interior has a central prospect unit consisting of a paneled door with recessed mirror flanked by document drawers with applied half turnings with urn and corkscrew finials. The prospect door has the same design and details as the bookcase doors. On either side of the prospect unit are two stacked pairs of drawers surmounting four pigeonholes with serpentine valances. The drawers each have a single brass knob; one knob is missing. Below the desk surface, the case is blockfront with mitered upper corners. The case has four graduated drawers. The uppermost drawer is flanked by lopers, each of which has a single knob. The drawers each have a shaped escutcheon and two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. The drawer openings have bead molding along the edges. There is complex molding along the side and front lower edges of the case that follows the profile of the blocking. The skirt has a fan-carved center drop. The case rests on hairy paw-on-ball feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Incised signature: [Frothingham].
