The turtle-shaped figured white marble top has ogee molded edges and sits on top of the table frame but is not attached. The conforming table frame is constructed with four shaped boards joined in the corners with glue. The exterior faces of all of the boards are carved with three tiers of ogee molding and the other faces are unmolded. Four applied grape-and-leaf carved skirts are glued to the underside of the frame, one in the center of each side. The carvings are each reinforced with two glue blocks behind the top edge. <b>The table top is supported by four exaggerated cabriole legs which are glued to the frame in the four corners. The edges of the legs are all carved with quarter-round molding outlined by inscribed lines and the shoulders have integral grape cluster carvings with applied leaf carvings on either side. The legs are joined by serpentine-carved X-form stretchers with an applied turned finial above and below the center point. One stretcher is notched so that it fits over the other where they cross in the center. Each stretcher arm has a cutout in the center of its face with a three-pointed leaf or flame carving in the center. The stretchers are joined to the legs with mortise and tenons and one joint is reinforced with a screw through the side of the leg.
