There was also a Nathaniel Frost active at the same time, but he did not appear in the Boston Directories. Nancy Goyne Evans, in her book, Windsor Chair Making in America: From Craft Shop to Consumer (2006), first proposed that Frost was incorrectly identified as James. In a footnote to validate her point, she cites David Tilden, Esq., vs. William Seaver and Nathaniel Frost, May 1804, Inferior Court of Common Pleas, Suffolk County, Boston, Mass. The crest of the chair back has three miniature spindles connecting the top rail and bottom rail, creating four open spaces. The rods are all bamboo-turned. Between the stiles are seven tapered spindles. From the stiles, the arm rail and post form a 90 degree angle with a supporting spindle. The D-shaped seat is slightly dished. The front edge is grooved. Found the plank are four legs braced by two upper front and back stretchers and two lateral stretchers above the terminals.
