In this thesis, I compare the work of Theodor Adorno on the subject of Marxian dialectics to the work of Jacques Derrida, his method of deconstruction, and his (non)concept différance. I argue that deconstruction and différance are analogous to dialectics, as a method, and as a descriptive theory, respectively. My central claim is that among the many similarities and differences in the two thinkers' accounts, two central, and related differences are Adorno's materialism and understanding of the subject/object divide, and what I call the relative \"solidity\" of dialectics' objects of analysis, as opposed to deconstruction's, which I claim are comparatively \"frail.\" I conclude by suggesting that the former difference, that is, Adorno's view of the relationship between subject and object, entails the latter, what I call the relative \"solidity\" of dialectics' objects of analysis. I then argue there is a related explanatory gap in Derrida's theory which can be closed if he accepts Adorno's understanding of subject and object.
