Immigration reform and undocumented labor in the United States remain at the forefront of much debate in the political and social spheres. With over 8 million undocumented immigrants working in the United States, the issue of unauthorized employment stands as an important and complex topic for lawmakers, employers, and the immigrants themselves. While undocumented workers' rights are championed by social advocacy groups, the actual legislative actions affecting undocumented workers often go unnoticed and remain unknown. By looking at the relationship between immigration law and labor law, I examine the ways in which undocumented workers' labor protections are debated in the courts. Through this analysis, I demonstrate that labor protections for undocumented workers are not only unclear to the general public, but remain unresolved even within the Supreme Court.
