Ranging from the pervasiveness of Korean cuisine to the raging popularity of Korean pop music, South Korean soft power resources have been exerting influence throughout the global scene. With the rise of South Korea's soft power resources, South Korea has been aiming to utilize soft power in its foreign relations. This thesis explores the theory of soft power and aims to assess the role of soft power in South Korean bilateral relations. To assess the role of soft power, this thesis will analyze the current metrics of soft power and introduce a subjective approach by focusing on certain bilateral relations in regards to the country's foreign agenda. This interdisciplinary thesis will not only explore the historic and economic influence of South Korean soft power, but also assess the impact of soft power utilized by the South Korean government in its recent foreign and domestic policies.
