In a dense, sprawling, urban environment like New York City, the unit of the individual often fails to tell the full story of place and time. Through the lens of objects—stuff, things, trash, junk, heirlooms, artifacts, salvage, stock, merchandise, clutter—as they gather, shift, and circulate, these stories explore memory, boyhood, depersonalization, labor, gentrification, industrial ecosystems, natural history, and climate change in the peripheral, leaving spaces of New York. A geriatric community of beachcombers, a fulfillment center worker, and the layered history of a single black table with a broken drawer; stories that are fragmented, collective, surreal, intimate, and (hopefully) relevant. Not just our relationship to objects, but the reciprocal relationship therein: how the material stuff of our lives makes, defines, articulates, and quietly points toward our past, present and future.
