This thesis explores rematriation, an Indigenous woman lead movement and active response to colonial traumas that have stolen, displaced and scattered Indigenous seed kin. The movement is directed at seeds that have been lost to tribes through historical ethnographic collection and are now stored as artifacts in museums. Through rematriation, seeds are returned home to tribes and are often planted and tended to with traditional methods. In this way, rematriation articulates with larger Indigenous food sovereignty movements that aim to revitalize culture through food production. This project also investigates the origins of a collection of seeds and plant materials that are housed in Wesleyan's Archaeology and Anthropology Collections. The research in this thesis will be passed to the seeds' tribal relatives who will decide whether they want to bring their seed kin home.
