Through exploring both the benefits and limitations of both social analysis and literary fiction, this thesis seeks to create new sorts of narratives regarding the relatively recent proliferation of feminicides in México at the turn of the century. The global phenomenon that is feminicide, being \"the killing of women qua women, often condoned by, if not sponsored by the state and/or by religious institutions'', has, in recent times, haunted the women of México, specifically those living on the border zones. Beginning in the 90s with the \"Juárez Murders\", reports of feminicides characterized by extreme brutality, rape, and corpse messaging, rose exponentially, which led many to ask, who is killing the women of Juárez? However, such a brutal phenomenon was not, and continues to not be confined to the border spaces. The hegemonic discourses that have emerged from both the Mexican State and media outlets in the past 30 years tend to pathologize the victims of feminicide, enacting further violence on their bodies post-mortem. In this thesis, I utilize social and literary analysis, in addition to my own work of creative \"fiction\" in an attempt to more adequately contextualize and historicize the crimes. By confounding distinctions of genre, I hope to both problematize conventional narratives regarding gender-based violence and, in turn, uncover new forms of knowledge production in relation to the proliferation of feminicides in México.
