Face Proof. PCGS About New 50 Apparent.  An exceedingly rare and very impressive India paper proof with vibrant vermillion color devices. Superbly rendered face designs are by the American Bank Note Company. The $500 branch payable plate design was not known to Haxby when he published. The issued notes from this series used blue engraved backs. The obligation is artfully arranged around the oval portrait of Washington below the arced title. Beneath, on either side of the large vermillion \"D\" protector, are elegant genre portraits. A child, the title attributed as Boy and Bird's Nest by James Bannister (see Hessler's, The Engraver's Line), at the left holds lilacs and a bird's nest complete with eggs. At right, the subject is blowing the seed head from a dandelion, perhaps making a wish. The vermillion protector FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS is squeezed along the bottom. The ends have half vermillion/half black perpendicular \"500\" protectors with \"Dollars\" in vermillion. An exceptional color tinting array and high denomination. Amazingly, this note is known issued and hole cancelled and was auctioned by us at the 2011 CSNS Signature sale, PCGS Very Fine 20 \"Hole Punch Cancels,\" for $8,625.
