Proof. PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. A Superb Gem Proof $3 from this series and likely the only example in private hands; the Haxby plate note is presumably in the Wisconsin Historical Society. This India paper proof mounted on original card by Danforth, Wright & Co. boasts rich, deep printing. The traditional Native American way of life is contrasted with the \"progressive\" ways of the settlers. A shield showing the sun rising over the water and a banner reading EXCELSIOR divides two groups (note the use of the New York shield for \"convenience\"). The mother to the left of the shield hugs her little child; a mountain vista is behind. At right, the mother uses a book and globe to educate the children; a cultivated landscape is in the background. A contemplative farmer rests at the lower right. Noted as \"Mounted on Cardstock\" and also \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as seen on nearly all the other proofs from this exemplary offering. Ex: Eric P.
