Proof. PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ.  There are Bank of Fox Lake proofs known from the 1855 series, but this is the rarest series from the bank and is not pictured in the Krause Wisconsin book. The only other proof sheet (printed on a $2-$5 sheet configuration by the slightly different imprint, Wellstood, Hay & Whiting, New York) with the July 1, 1857 date is in the Wisconsin Historical Society. Therefore, this $5 is unique in private hands.  A peaceable group of farm animals is at the upper left. To the right is an oval portrait of a young woman. The base vignette shows a wharf motif with an anchor and commercial goods. This is a Superb Gem, and the vignette layout is remarkable. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as made.
