There are British soldiers in the lower right-hand corner, but they're not fighting.  It looks like two bunker entrances at the bottom edge of the picture.  This seems to be more of a rough pencil sketch than most of Mr. Flagg's other works, also the paper looks more like it's from a book than a magazine.  It was tricky pinning down which war this was depicting, but I think it's WWI.  The plane matches a late 1910s/1920s era Gourdou-Leseurre GL.30.  The British helmets didn't change much from one war to the next, so I'm judging this by the plane.
