Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58 Apparent.  The impressive Bank of Wisconsin vermillion color title series was engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co., New York & Philadelphia. This is a very rare series, and we know of only one other complete denomination set: the Wismer-Bookbinder-Krause proofs. These were enthusiastically received by collectors when sold in September 2009 in Philadelphia. Those proofs were on India paper and hinged on the back. This $2 proof is printed on India paper and mounted on its original card. The title and \"WILL PAY\" are in vermillion at the top, slightly left. At the lower right is small protector TWO. A sentimental family scene is at lower left, with a beaming baby plucking a branch from a grapevine while seated on his father's back. The theme of kinship continues in the vignette at right, where a seated man has his arm around his little granddaughter while a mare and her colt stand nearby. The Krause Collection $2 proof realized $3,450 six years ago. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. A vibrant example, though noted are \"Adhesive Residue and Stain at Bottom Left\" by grading. This appears to be one of only two examples in private hands. Ex: Eric P.
