Construction was begun by the Meroitic king Arkamani and continued through the reigns of Ptolemaic kings and Roman Emperors Augustus and Tiberius. It has two sanctuaries, one by Arkamani and one by Augustus. When the temple was moved, it was found to contain a number of reused blocks from an earlier structure dedicated to Horus of Baki by Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis III.
