One hundred eleven examples of this Ornate Back Treasury note are listed in Track & Price. Due to a hoard that surfaced in groups over the last 20 years, many of those 100+ survivors are Uncirculated. The portrait of John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, appears at the left end of the note. Engraved by Charles Schlecht, it was based on a painting by Henry Inman. The portrait was also used on $500 Federal Reserve Notes and $1000 bonds. PCGS has assigned the Apparent grade for a \"Small Internal Tear in Portrait,\" which is little more than a pinhole.
