PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.  This Maine District note is from the first bank authorized there in 1799. This is a very rare note, so much so that no examples from the series are illustrated in the Whitman Encyclopedia. The Pullen Collection had only a low-grade $2 note from the series. This Perkins Patent Stereotype Steel Plate note shows an oval garland chain with links of flowers alternating with ONEs. The numerical denomination appears in all four corners. Text and obligations are across. \"One Dollar\" in micro-lettered scrip is across most of the face. \"Small Edge Tears; Stains\" are noted by grading. Certainly a sleeper for the specialist.
