Proof. PCGS Choice About New 55. This is another stunning Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. with engraved design, and a rare India paper proof. Represented on the stirring top central vignette is the steamboat Zebulon M. Pike, the first steamboat to arrive as far north, via the Mississippi, as St. Louis on August 2, 1817. The sky in the serene vignette at top center has a painterly quality. Townspeople gather at the shore to watch the steamboat PIKE sail by. However, the Native American crouching at left instead seems to be studying the fellow standing nearby. Ornately framed male portraits, George Rogers Clark at the left and Daniel Boone at the right, appear at the ends between \"X\" counters. Although without back stamp hinges, this note is from the early Wismer acquisition. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as made. A quasi-historical vignette type and another handsome proof.
