New York, (NY) - St. Louis Omnibus Co., \"charge to account of... to E. G. Potter, Belleview, Iowa\" $1 18__ Oakes 7-1. Remainder. PCGS Extremely Fine 45. This $1 note and the following two denominations form an elite trio of three-state tie notes bearing the prominent St. Louis Omnibus Co. title. Eric P. Newman obtained the set from D.C. Wismer in 1939, and correspondence between the two shows the series of steps needed to locate the notes. Eric specifically requested Wismer to look for them since they were not on the original Missouri inventory he had for sale. Eric knew of them from an earlier Wismer ad in The Numismatist, and suggested they could be under another state, such as Iowa, in his stock. Wismer had thought he might have sold them, but found the three notes, which became part of the $125 transaction that featured the epic Missouri proofs, issued notes, and scrip Wismer collected for years. We are aware of only one other set of these notes, listed and plated in Dean Oakes' Iowa book (recently revised), printed as India paper proofs. These matched notes are printed on banknote bond paper and we believe they are remainders. Although signed (by Cass & Co.) and dated (Jan'y 2, 1852) in a confident manner, this may have been falsely done. We are uncertain what the proper signatures are for the series or how the notes were specifically issued. They are all beautifully engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co., Cincinnati. The original sheet was certainly in a $1A-$1B-$2A-$3A configuration. The engraved \"New York\" and its position indicates this was a New York note, with a St. Louis title, payable to Potter in Belleview, Iowa. An allegorical female reclines above the title at top center with a capped Liberty pole, cornucopia spilling coins, shield, and eagle. At the left end, a Native American Princess is portrayed in an oval frame between \"1\" dies. The right end shows a \"1\" die within a large counter composed of agricultural and scrollwork elements. A horse is at the base. Plate B. Theoretically, there is a $1A position note from this original sheet, and we know of the plated $1 proof in the Oakes book. Extremely rare, and an important scrip-note issuer tied across three states. The first example ever offered at public auction. Ex: D. C. Wismer, July 1939; Eric P.
